Several rallies held against illegal immigration

A group of “white pride” activists organized through an online forum was behind recent anti-illegal immigration rallies in Hudson and Nashua, members and police say.

Members of North East White Pride and White Revolution gathered at Hudson’s Library Park on July 2 and demonstrated in Hudson and in front of Nashua City Hall on June 11, where police dispersed them, one member wrote in an e-mail to The Telegraph.

The Hudson demonstration lasted long enough to attract attention; two people have written letters to The Telegraph commenting on it. The protesters welcome the attention.

A member of the North East White Pride forum who identified himself as a Nashua man, using the screen name “Leibenhassen,” quoted the first letter, which praised the demonstrators for opposing illegal immigration, and urged others to show support for that cause.

“Outstanding. For once we’re seen as patriots and not racists. Good job everyone,” a member using the screen name “irishskin” wrote.

According to Hudson police, the demonstrators have met at Library Park a couple of times over the last few months. Whenever they are present, police patrol the area, but the group has broken no laws, Lt. Bill Avery said. Police have had no reason to speak with or identify members of the group, because they have only stood on the sidewalk holding signs, he said.

The groups plan further demonstrations, members said in e-mails and messages written through their forum.

“New Hampshire residents love us up there. They respond with thumbs up and blasting car horns. It lets us know our message was received,” forum member “Ctskinhead88” wrote.

Robert Trestan, northeast civil rights counsel with the Anti-Defamation League, said white supremacist groups having been capitalizing on the immigration debate to recruit new members.

“When they are out there showing anti-immigration signs, you probably don’t see the swastikas that are tattooed on their arms,” Trestan said. “They are using this to get their message out a little more and actively recruit new members.”

Catherine Valley, a Hudson woman who saw the protesters July 2 while driving by them in her car, said she noticed a young girl who did not appear to be more than 12 years old holding a sign that read, “Keep NH legal, Deport the Illegals.”

“She was not even a teenager,” Valley said. “I thought that was wrong because she was too young to have made the sign.”

Valley also said she saw a young man standing on the Mexican flag.

“He was standing and shuffling his feet on the Mexican flag,” Valley said. “I don’t think we should do that to anybody’s flag.”

Valley said she the protesters did not appear to be “skinheads” or “anyone that would stand out in a crowd.”

White Pride forum members posted photographs showing members of the group, including one with 17 members posing outside the Hills Memorial Library in Hudson. Several members responded to questions posed by The Telegraph in the forum, but all were wary about identifying themselves.

A member posting as “Oscar Yeager” (the name of a character in a white-separatist novel) wrote, “I’m speaking for myself here, but I live and work in the area and I am certainly not going to have my name and picture in a newspaper article and trust the newspaper to give my statements/views a positive or even neutral spin. People have been fired for less.”

“Keep in mind that this isn’t really an organization, and everyone on here has different opinions, views and goals so it is going to be hard for you to write an article that covers the wide range of people who use NEWP,” the writer added.

North East White Pride member “Ctskinhead88,” who also runs a blog called “Connecticut Skinhead,” described the NEWP forum as “a very active group hailing from many North Eastern states.”

“Whites who are members of any pro white organization are welcome,” he wrote on his blog. “We need to make North East cities safe again. It’s time to start educating the young minds of our white brothers and sisters. Let’s set an example that the North East welcomes all whites and try to clean up our streets and take out the trash.”

The forum’s administrator, who uses the name “White Wolf,” wrote that while it formed as an online community, the group has tried to become more active in the real world, with meetings, demonstrations and such.

“We consider ourselves the melting pot of white nationalism. We accept Klansmen, neo-Nazis, and any other group of people for the preservation of the white race,” White Wolf wrote. “We don’t have an official membership; it’s really a ‘volunteer when you can, donate if you want’ sort of situation.”

The July 2 demonstration in Hudson was billed as a meeting of the New Hampshire chapter of White Revolution, a white pride group with chapters around the country.

A person identifying himself by e-mail as Josef Meighy, deputy governor of the group, said White Revolution is dedicated to the philosophy of the Fourteen Words, a single sentence written by neo-Nazi leader David Lane: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.”

According to the Anti-Defamation League, Lane is serving a 190-year prison sentence for racketeering charges and civil rights violations that stem from the 1984 murder of Denver radio talk show host Alan Berg.

Several members of the North East White Pride forum responded to questions posed by The Telegraph online, and their responses can be seen at www.newp.org. Members expressed hostility toward Jews and anyone with darker skin, and a belief that contemporary American society is biased against whites and white culture. Some wrote of being bullied by blacks as children, and others wrote of being influenced by “white pride” literature online.

“White nationalism is a spiritual, social, political ideology, that basically states that we as white people have the right to live and prosper. We are in danger of extinction if current trends do not reverse, and so we must do whatever it takes to safeguard our people,” White Wolf wrote, adding, “We need our own living space, government, military, legal system, and most importantly media. It isn’t enough to have a bunch of slimy white politicians running government and selling out their own race; we need white leaders whose number one concern is the safeguarding and well being of white people.”

Several members, including one using the screen name “Captain Piddles,” use Nazi symbols as part of their online profiles. Still, “Captain Piddles” wrote, “We are not evil Nazis, we are workers, we are family men and women who are fighting to make a bright future for our children.”
